Field Trip (One Time, Non-convention)
Colorado Field Ornithologists is pleased to announce The Great Boulder Caper, v. 2025. This zaniest field trip of the year will be held the day after American Thanksgiving, on Black Friday, November 28, 2025 in Boulder County.
As to our meetup point and itinerary, we don’t do it that way on The Caper. It’s freeform.
The rest of the story: Please register and we’ll confirm the meetup point and the vaguest sense of an itinerary, which, honestly, gets determined day-of. But if you need a general sense for things, it seems likely that we will get underway in the 7am hour somewhere in the general vicinity of Longmont, Boulder County.
The Caper is free and open to the public, but we need to cap this popular outing at 30 participants. So it is first-come first-served to those who register.
Dr. Rob Blenk is the Assistant Professor of wetland and waterfowl ecology at Cal Poly Humboldt. Rob is a native of Washington State, and has conducted ornithological field work in much of North America and beyond—from studying pelagic seabird nesting in New Zealand to banding puffins in the United Kingdom. Rob’s current interests involve the development and application of new techniques and technologies to refine and improve monitoring of waterfowl populations—current examples include the use of uncrewed aerial vehicles to survey for breeding harlequin ducks and using genetic markers to connect wintering brant to their regions of natal origin. Rob is an avid birder, backpacker, and woodworker.
